Amudat

Amudat District is located in northeastern Uganda, bordering Kenya and South Sudan. It is mainly inhabited by the Pokot community, who practice pastoralism and small-scale farming. The district is characterized by semi-arid conditions with frequent droughts, making water scarcity a major challenge. Livestock—especially cattle, goats, and camels—forms the backbone of the local economy. Amudat is known for its rich cultural heritage, including traditional music, dance, and crafts of the Pokot people. Infrastructure and social services like health and education are still developing. Efforts are underway to improve water access and security in the area. The district also serves as a gateway to parts of Mount Elgon National Park, attracting some eco-tourism.
