Karenga

Karenga District is a new district in Northern Uganda, carved from Kaabong in 2019. It lies in the Karamoja sub-region and borders Kidepo Valley National Park, making tourism a key economic activity. The area is home to pastoralist communities who mainly keep livestock and grow crops like sorghum and maize. It also hosts the Karamoja Cultural Festival, showcasing local traditions. Despite its rich wildlife and cultural heritage, the district faces challenges like poor infrastructure and human-wildlife conflict. Development efforts focus on improving roads, schools, and water access.
