The main ethnic group is the Bakiga, who are skilled farmers and grow crops like Irish potatoes, beans, sorghum, and tea. Kabale town, the district’s headquarters, is often called “the Switzerland of Africa” because of its stunning landscape. The district is home to part of Lake Bunyonyi, a popular tourist destination for canoeing and birdwatching. It also serves as a gateway to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for gorilla tracking. Kabale has educational institutions like Kabale University and several vocational schools
