Kanungu

Kanungu District is located in southwestern Uganda, sharing borders with the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is a mountainous area known for its cool climate and fertile soils. Agriculture is the main economic activity, with tea, coffee, Irish potatoes, and bananas widely grown. The district is famous for hosting part of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site popular for gorilla trekking. Kanungu’s headquarters is in Kanungu town, with other notable trading centers like Kihihi and Butogota. The area also benefits from small-scale hydroelectric power projects that supply local communities.
