Kiryandongo

Kiryandongo District is in Western Uganda, created in 2010 from Masindi District. It has about 270,000 people, including the Banyoro, Langi, and Acholi communities, plus many refugees from South Sudan and neighboring countries. The district’s economy centers on agriculture, growing crops like maize, beans, and rice. Its location along the Gulu–Masindi highway supports trade and connectivity. Kiryandongo hosts the large Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement, providing essential services to thousands. Infrastructure improvements include roads and electricity from the Karuma Hydropower Project. The district also has protected areas like Karuma Wildlife Reserve, promoting conservation and eco-tourism. Overall, it balances agricultural growth with humanitarian and environmental roles.
