Kasese

Kasese District, in Western Uganda along the Congo border, covers approximately 2,724 km² and hosts roughly 750,000 people . It’s a multi-ethnic region with dominant Bakonzo and Basongora communities, and English, Swahili, and Rutooro languages are commonly spoken. Agriculture (coffee, millet, maize, cassava, passion fruit) employs over 85% of residents, while mining (copper, cobalt, cement, salt) and emerging fish farming also drive the economy. The district is home to key tourism assets like Rwenzori Mountains and Queen Elizabeth National Park, plus iconic sites such as Lake Katwe salt flats and the Kazinga Channel . Recent developments include small hydroelectric projects (Nyamwamba I & II) and ambitious plans to upgrade Kasese airfield and town infrastructure .
